Is the new "hardcore z1000" out yet?

Nope I'm just speculating. Haven't even heard of rumors. It's the only thing that makes sense to me tho.

Having just ridden the FZ and R1 back to back, I would not call the FZ hard core. Didn't even feel like the same engine. That cross plane I4 sounds so good, but it felt very neutered compared to the R1
